![]() When I read this book for the first time at 17, I couldn’t stop reading it! I have never been so captivated by a story that fosters and revels in its ambiguity. Of a similar vein, the structure and writing style is very straightforward for a book that deals with mature themes and the trajectory from childhood to adulthood. ![]() However, her uncertainty is essential when understanding the characters and their skewed relationships with guardians later on in the novel. ![]() ![]() The first-person narrative function is not always reliable as Kathy often remarks ‘I might be remembering it wrong’. ![]() The novel is set in rural Britain in the early 2000’s and follows the movements of Kathy H, Ruth and Tommy as they deconstruct and reflect upon their memories of Hailsham (a boarding school that teaches from birth to 16 years old). Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro explores the human condition during a time of technological debate and change. ![]()
